A busy weekend, actually. Yesterday, I drove all the way into the city to pick my grandmother up from hospital. She had eye surgery on Friday. The surgery went well and she has no pain from it. It was nice to spend the 1 on 1 time with her on the trip back to her place. She is 89 years old and lives in an assisted care village in her own one bedroom unit. We arrived in time for lunch and so I ate lunch with her in the lunch room with all of the other residents. It was an interesting experience. She is very happy living there and enjoys socialising with the other residents there. She chose to move there about 4 years ago. It is much better for her than living all alone and trying to maintain a house. I called her today and she is doing well. My sister also visited her today to check on her.
Today I got borders on to 3 out of the 4 quilts I had planned to do. First was the snowman quilt. It went from this -

to this
I even cut, joined and pressed the binding and joined the backing fabric so it is now ready to quilt.
Next was the zig zag stars quilt. I had already pinned the first borders on in this picture becauseĀ I almost forgot to take the before shot.

This baby is ready to quilt. I have the backing and I also cut, joined and pressed the binding for when the quilting is done – no excuses for me not to do it now.
Finally, I had already made the checkerboard borders for this quilt. I still had to cut and join all of the other borders (same for the first two quilts) as well.

I did not cut the binding for this one. I am tossing up whether to use red like the sashings or the border print. Opinions, please.
I am not going to custom quilt this one, I plan to use Lorien Quilting’s new Bayside panto. I have the backing all ready for this one as well. I am finding that I have been keeping myself well-supplied with backings. I tend to buy them as I begin the quilt in the hope I will finish it soon, I suppose.
Carla, you guessed it, I am in the corner on my knees in that photo. Probably on my computer. The bag design that I used for my bag, which is the large version of Erin’s bag is the Paddington Satchel by Moonshine Designs. It is a fabulous bag to use, and I highly recommend it.
The final quilt to put borders on is still waiting. I ran out of time today. I will post pics when it is done.
Todays not-such-a-mystery photo. Portrait of an iron….

Wow! You got a lot done!I remember visiting my grandmother when she was in AL. She hated it though – she always felt that she should have been taken care of at home. She was always sweet with her Grandchildren though! She died 4 years ago at 95 and I still miss her.
I’m glad you had a nice visit with your grandmother, and that she is happy where she is. I am voting for red binding…
I really like the star quilt. The borders you picked are really good on it too. I would not do red binding on the other only because the center is really the focal point. Just an opinion and I’m sure whatever you do will be pretty.
I vote for red… I ususally choose the ‘framing’ effect.
Glad you had time with your grandma, 1L, that is so important…she sounds wonderful.
OK, upon further study… dark brown with red piping would look cool.
