I went to the movies today to see the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I loved the books and have been looking forward to the movie. I always envisaged Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomqvist even before I knew he was in the movie. He was perfectly cast. Rooney Mara was also a very convincing Lisbeth Salander.
Of course adapting such an intense novel would be difficult but I though the movie was fantastic. I don’t go to the movies very often and at $18.50 a ticket (that’s about $19.50 US Dollars for my USA friends) I am much too cheap to go unless I really really want to see the movie. This one was worth it.

I’ve not finished the book yet, so most likely won’t go to see the movie. That is an awful price to pay for a ticket! Here we can buy tickets on-line before the show, and if we go to a matinee, can generally get a ticket for about $7.50. It has been a very long time since I’ve been to the cinema.
Have you seen the original movie? How did it compare?
Hi Lisa,
Yes, I have seen both. The Swedish movie was good. I believe that is was made for TV originally and there were more liberties taken with the plot and I felt that they didn’t go in depth with the character of Lisbeth. If you are not a fan of foreign films (I like them) then you may be more disappointed with it.
I don’t think the US version was too ‘dumbed down’. It was good visually. The accents were believable and it was well cast. I was glad that the violence was not overly graphic, if you know what I mean. It was a long film but to capture all the detail it could have been 6 hours long. I don’t think my $$$ were wasted. It has just been so long since I have been to the movies that I got sticker shock!
